Job Overview
The Senior Quality Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring product quality, process improvement, and problem-solving across the organization. You will be responsible for overseeing quality standards, implementing advanced quality processes, and driving continuous improvement. The role involves managing quality standards, overseeing GD&T, conducting root cause analysis using 8D and 5Whys, and handling PPAP submissions. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Assurance:
- Lead the development and implementation of quality standards, processes, and procedures to ensure product compliance with customer requirements.
- Review and approve technical drawings, ensuring proper application of GD&T for manufacturability and inspection.
- Perform detailed inspections and audits to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Problem Solving and Root Cause Analysis:
- Facilitate and lead 8D problem-solvingactivities, driving cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Utilize 5Whys analysis to investigate quality issues and develop robust corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Production Part Approval Process (PPAP):
- Lead PPAP submissions to customers, ensuring all necessary documentation, sample parts, and inspection results are completed accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure their PPAP submissions meet quality expectations and resolve any non-conformances.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Implement process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and increase efficiency.
- Analyze data from production, quality reports, and customer feedback to recommend process adjustments.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with manufacturing, design, and supplier teams to resolve quality-related issues and ensure that corrective actions are implemented effectively.
- Serve as the main point of contact for quality concerns, interfacing with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation for all quality activities, including control plans, FMEAs, and inspection reports.
- Generate and present quality performance reports, ensuring the management team is informed of key quality metrics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or a related field).
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in quality engineering, with a strong background in heavy industry, automotive, aerospace, or a related industry.
- Expertise in GD&T, including interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in 8D problem-solving methodology and conducting root cause analysis using 5Whys.
- Experience with PPAP documentation and requirements.
- Experience with CNC, Welding, and assembly process is advantage.
- Knowledge of ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9001, or equivalent quality standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities to work with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with other quality tools such as Six Sigma, FMEA, Control Plans, and SPC.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., Minitab) and ERP systems.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification is a plus.
