Role - Senior Software Engineer II

Role Overview:

Marriott International is seeking a highly skilled and experienced AEM Developer is typically titled Senior Software Engineer II (AEM) to join our Legal Squad team. This role is ideal for a backend-focused engineer with deep expertise in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), and Java. You will be responsible for designing and developing scalable, secure, and high-performance web solutions that power Marriott's website, including modern headless CMS implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

Backend Development:

• Design, develop, and maintain AEM-based web applications and components.
• Implement and extend AEM templates, components, workflows, and services using Java, HTL/Sightly, and Sling.
• Develop and support headless AEM architecture, delivering content via APIs to decoupled front-end applications (e.g., React/Next.js).
• Develop and maintain custom AEM modules and OSGi bundles to support business requirements.

Performance & Optimization:

• Optimize AEM configurations for scalability, caching, and performance across global deployments.
• Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines for AEM deployments using tools like Harness, Jenkins, GitHub, and Docker.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to AEM architecture, deployment, and content delivery.

Collaboration:

• Collaborate with front-end developers, QA engineers, DevOps, and product teams to deliver seamless and performant digital experiences.
• Collaborate with content authors and product teams to streamline publishing workflows and improve authoring experience.

Quality & Standards:

• Document technical designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Ensure CMS content structures support multilingual and cross-locale publishing needs.
• Ensure compliance with Marriott's security, accessibility, SEO, and performance standards.
• Stay current with AEM product updates, industry trends, and emerging technologies to recommend improvements and innovations.

Integration & API Consumption:

• Integrate AEM with backend APIs, third-party services, and enterprise systems using REST, GraphQL, and other protocols.
• Implement personalization and content targeting strategies using AEM capabilities.
• Participate in Agile development processes including sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives.

Collaboration:

• Partner with backend, frontend, QA, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Participate in Agile development processes (sprint planning, code reviews, retrospectives)
• Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver features aligned with business goals

Quality & Standards:

• Ensure code quality through reviews, testing, and adherence to standards
• Support accessibility (WCAG), SEO, and internationalization requirements
• Maintain documentation and contribute to engineering best practices

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
• 6+ years of development experience
• Strong expertise in:
• 4+ years of experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
• Strong proficiency in Java.
• Experience with ReactJS and/or Next.js is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of JavaScript and/or TypeScript is a plus.
• Familiarity with HTML5 and CSS3.
• Experience building component-based UI architectures
• Experience integrating with APIs and backend services

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with:
• Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or CMS-based integrations
• Design systems and shared component libraries
• Modern frontend tooling (Webpack, Vite, etc.)
• Familiarity with:
• Accessibility (WCAG) and performance optimization
• Multi-language / global site implementation.

Soft Skills:

This role is ideal for an experienced AEM Developer with strong Java expertise who can design, develop, and maintain scalable digital solutions and content-driven web experiences. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, performant, and user-focused applications. Experience with modern frontend technologies such as React, Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3 is highly desirable.
