Position: Senior SQL Server Developer — Production SQL Owner
Focus: Hands-on T-SQL development + live production performance troubleshooting, NOT a BI / ETL / Data Warehouse role, NOT a monitoring-only DBA role
Experience: 8+ years
Work Hours: 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM IST during the initial onboarding and transition period (1–2 months), and 6:00 PM – 3:00 AM IST upon transitioning to the Production SQL ownership role to support US business hours.
Location: Pune
Environment: Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL) on AWS RDS, live transactional healthcare SaaS
Start: Immediate Joiners Preferred / As soon as available
Role Overview
• We are looking for a highly reliable senior SQL Server developer to serve as the primary Production SQL Owner for our healthcare SaaS platform running on AWS RDS for SQL Server.
• This is a dual-skill, hands-on role: (1) designing, writing, and optimizing complex T-SQL stored procedures that power critical business workflows, and (2) diagnosing live production performance problems — blocking, high CPU, memory pressure, slow queries — in real time on a busy OLTP system while US customers are online.
• You will not just monitor or observe — you will develop, fix, tune, and own production SQL end to end, and serve as the trusted escalation point during US business hours.
• This is a dedicated contractor role focused on long-term ownership of production SQL operations
Key Responsibilities SQL Development
• Design, write, debug, and maintain complex T-SQL stored procedures used in critical business workflows
• Deliver new database logic and enhancements as part of the product development cycle, working with engineering teams
• Refactor and optimize existing stored procedures: query rewrites, execution plan analysis, indexing strategy, statistics, and parameter sniffing fixes
• Perform controlled, well-documented production data fixes and investigate data discrepancies
Requirements
• 8+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server development experience on high-volume OLTP / transactional application databases (not data warehouse / BI)
• Expert-level T-SQL: complex stored procedures, functions, transactions, error handling, writing new logic, not just reviewing it
• Proven real-time production diagnosis skills: blocking chains, wait statistics (sys.dm_os_wait_stats), deadlock analysis, lock contention
• Demonstrated experience root-causing high CPU, high memory utilization, and slow query incidents on live systems using DMVs, Query Store, and execution plans
• Strong indexing strategy skills, including diagnosing and mitigating parameter sniffing
• Proven experience performing safe, audited production data fixes in a live transactional environment
• Strong production support and incident response experience
• Experience working in US shift or global support environment
Strongly Preferred
• AWS RDS for SQL Server experience
• Experience with sp_WhoIsActive, Extended Events, or equivalent live-diagnostics tooling
• Experience with ADO.NET-based application stacks
• Healthcare or transactional SaaS domain experience
• Strong hands-on T-SQL development is mandatory.
• must be comfortable diagnosing live production incidents in real time.
• Candidates whose recent 3+ years are primarily BI pipelines, ETL, data migration, report development, or pure DBA administration
