We are looking for a Senior System Analyst (SA) — backend / integration design on a core insurance platform
6+ years on enterprise software projects, at least 3 years as a System Analyst / Solution Designer / Technical Lead — hands-on with backend services, APIs, batch processes and system integration on existing enterprise systems. Experience in general Insurance (Motor, Property, A&H) is a PLUS!!
9am-6pm Hybrid work (3 days on-site in office at Ploenchit)
Soilfish is a Bangkok-based software house delivering development and support services to leading insurers. We are looking for a Senior System Analyst to join our onsite team on the core general insurance platform of a multinational insurance company. You will own the technical analysis and solution design — turning business requirements into backend service, API, batch and integration designs that our development squad can implement on a large, existing enterprise platform — and act as the technical voice toward business units, the client's IT organization, and neighboring vendor teams. This is not a documentation-only or front-end-only role.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze requirements from Product Owners and business users across general insurance product lines (motor — registration, renewal, claims; property — e.g., flood insurance; e-Policy; accident & health) and translate them into end-to-end system designs — backend services, APIs, batch jobs and data flows — not only screens.
- Design and document backend processing logic: API specifications (REST contracts, field-level request/response mapping, validation rules, error handling), batch process design (scheduling, input/output files, reconciliation, rerun / recovery), sequence and data-flow diagrams, and data mapping documents; review and interpret API specs from neighboring vendor teams.
- Perform impact analysis on the existing core insurance platform before development starts: trace which modules, database tables, batch jobs and integration points a change touches, and collect all dependencies across the client's organization (other systems, other vendors, other BUs) so the development squad can implement without surprises.
- Own the technical backlog: break solution designs into implementable JIRA stories / tasks with technical acceptance criteria, sequenced by dependency, and guide junior and mid-level developers through implementation and code / design review.
- Review screen flows / UI-UX (Figma) from a systems perspective — data availability, API readiness, performance and edge cases; maintain technical design documents and specification trackers in Confluence / Google Sheets.
- Lead technical grooming and design reviews with the development team; estimate effort, flag technical risks, and manage scope and priorities in JIRA together with the PO / BA.
- Query the Oracle database (SQL) to investigate data, validate design assumptions and support data mapping / migration; present findings to stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot hands-on: call and verify APIs with Postman, read application logs, work comfortably with JSON payloads, and drive root-cause analysis across services and batch jobs.
- Work closely with QA to plan SIT/UAT: define technical test scenarios (API contracts, batch runs, integration and negative cases), triage defects to root cause and decide fix vs. design change; ensure business requirements, compliance and policy are satisfied.
- Coordinate across multiple vendor teams (API, frontend, QA) and the core insurance system team — be the person who knows which module, database, job and contact owns each integration point, and negotiate interface contracts and delivery sequencing between teams.
- Represent the technical side toward business: explain system constraints, options and trade-offs to business units and Director-level stakeholders, push back on requirements that are not feasible or not safe for the existing platform, and propose alternatives.
- Communicate in English in meetings and documentation — several internal team members are non-Thai (e.g., Malaysian and German colleagues).
- Plan production rollout: release sequencing and rollback for API / batch / DB changes, cutover checklists, and post-deployment verification.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer / Software Engineering, IT, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years on software development projects, including at least 3 years as a System Analyst / Solution Designer / Technical Lead. A prior backend developer background is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience designing backend services — interpreting business requirements into API and batch process designs that developers implemented. Candidates whose experience is limited to front-end flows (fetch API → display → save → print report) will not be a fit for this role.
- Hands-on experience enhancing and integrating with existing enterprise / core systems (many modules, many interfaces, legacy constraints) — including impact analysis and dependency mapping — not greenfield development only.
- Experience in the insurance domain — general insurance (motor, property, A&H) strongly preferred; banking/financial services acceptable.
- Solid technical depth: able to read backend code (e.g., Java Spring Boot / Angular) well enough to review designs with developers, comfortable with databases, APIs/JSON, application logs — not documentation-only.
- Proven experience writing API specifications for REST services, including field-level request/response mapping, validation and error-handling design.
- Experience designing batch / scheduled processes (file interfaces, job dependencies, reconciliation, rerun and recovery).
- Experience breaking designs into developer-ready JIRA tasks and mentoring junior developers; comfortable being the technical decision-maker on the squad.
- Strong SQL skills (Oracle) for data investigation (required); experience testing APIs with Postman and reading application logs.
- Experience supporting SIT/UAT from the technical side: technical scenario design, defect root-cause triage, and defect management.
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments with JIRA.
- Good command of English — you will present technical designs and trade-offs to and be interviewed by Director-level client stakeholders.
- Clear technical documentation and communication; able to run design reviews and cross-team technical meetings with clear agendas and outcomes, and hold your position with business stakeholders when the system requires it.
- Strong analytical thinking, ownership, and comfortable working across business and technical teams.
- Able to complete the client's onboarding process, including mandatory compliance training; hybrid work with onsite days in central Bangkok.
- Nice to have: experience with an insurance core system or policy admin platform; cloud or container-based deployment; basic performance tuning of SQL / batch jobs.
Location: In Center of Bangkok (Ploenchit BTS)
