Job Summary:
The Senior System Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization's server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and cloud environments. The role involves ensuring high system availability, implementing robust security measures, performing regular backups, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support operational and strategic IT initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor server health, system usage, and generate monthly performance reports.
- Provision and decommission servers, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Perform operating system patch management, software updates, and environment upgrades for UAT and production systems.
- Design, implement, and maintain server, storage, and virtualization solutions.
- Manage cloud infrastructure in both on-premises and public cloud environments.
- Administer VMware, Oracle VM, and Kubernetes platforms.
- Oversee container networking, persistent storage, and workload orchestration.
- Design, implement, and manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
- Remediate vulnerabilities and ensure systems meet secure configuration standards.
- Review and update security baselines for managed devices.
- Ensure compliance with PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and other security frameworks.
- Implement infrastructure hardening and integrate logs with SIEM platforms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks.
- Conduct root cause analysis and maintain detailed incident reports.
- Collaborate with application and teams to ensure system integration.
- Develop and maintain a knowledge base for recurring technical issues.
- Maintain accurate system documentation and change records.
- Manage server inventory in accordance with IT Asset Management policies.
- Participate in infrastructure projects such as data center migration, cloud adoption, and automation initiatives.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support IT operations and strategic goals.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A Senior System Engineer is typically expected to have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in system engineering or related fields.
- Proven experience in server infrastructure management, monitoring, and reporting.
- Proficiency in provisioning and decommissioning servers, with incident resolution skills.
- Strong knowledge of patch management and environment upgrades.
- Hands-on experience with server, storage, and virtualization platforms.
- Proficiency in VMware, Oracle VM, and Kubernetes cluster management.
- Understanding of container networking, persistent storage, and orchestration.
- Ability to design and manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
- Expertise in vulnerability remediation and secure configurations.
- Familiarity with PCI DSS, ISO 27001, and SIEM integration.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities.
