Job Title: Social Impact Manager

Location: Bangkok

Department: Sustainable Development

Reports To: Senior Director- Sustainability & Social Impact

Job Purpose:

Thai Union is deeply committed to sustainability and in 2023, Thai Union updated its award-winning sustainability strategy, SeaChange, with 11 ambitious inter-connected commitments that focus on five key outcomes by 2030: Human & Labour Rights, Health & Wellness, Climate Action, Biodiversity, and Circularity.

The Manager Social Impact will play a pivotal role in driving human rights, decent work and responsible recruitment across all subsidiaries and business units. We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Manager to lead coordination of sustainability projects, streamline policies, identify efficiency opportunities, and support governance across all business units. This is a key role to ensure we build a unified sustainability roadmap, enhance internal alignment, and maximize impact through consistent and cost-effective implementation.

Key social impact goals include:

  • Safe, Decent, and Equitable Work: Ensuring 100% of farms and land-based suppliers in our supply chain meet or exceed industry best practices in welfare and working conditions.
  • Responsible Aquaculture: Ensuring 100% of farms we source from provide a safe and decent workplace by 2030.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Act as the central point of contact for sustainability-related initiatives across all business units.
  • Build and maintain a one source of truth project tracker to monitor progress, milestones, and outcomes of all sustainability projects.
  • Support business units in aligning their activities with group sustainability objectives and timelines.
  • Develop tools, templates, and guidance to help business units implement sustainability practices effectively.
  • Identify overlapping, duplicated, or ad hoc programs and recommend ways to streamline for better efficiency and impact.

Governance, Auditing, and Compliance Oversight:

  • Continue to evolve group level responsible sourcing standards, policies and protocols. Ensure understanding of group policies by procurement and cross-functional team.
  • Develop and update our global social monitoring framework, including our approach to monitoring farms and land-based suppliers across all Thai Union companies, ensuring effectiveness, consistency, and comprehensive coverage across all regions and supply chains.
  • Monitor and evaluate global auditing practices, ensuring that audits are thorough, transparent, and aligned with both company standards and global best practices.
  • Partner with all business units Responsible Sourcing Team and owned operation HR team to ensure rigorous reporting, and follow-up actions to address non-compliance or risks and aim for continuous improvement in labor practices and worker welfare.

Responsible Recruitment:

  • Across our own global operations, act as the subject matter expert to provide recommendation and inputs for all topics related to the ethical recruitment of Thai Union employees. Identify and manage external partnerships on ethical recruitment, including monitoring the remediation of any identified grievances.
  • In conjunction with the business units Responsible Sourcing team recommend responsible recruitment practices throughout Thai Unions supply chain, focusing on preventing forced labor, human trafficking, and unethical recruitment practices.
  • Engage with NGOs and government organization on advocacy and proactively mitigate risks.

Worker Protection:

  • Oversee the implementation of worker grievance mechanisms/ worker voice initiatives across all subsidiaries and key supply chains.
  • Support the development of initiatives that empower workers to safely voice concerns, ensuring mechanisms for fair resolution.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Develop training curriculum for subsidiary leadership teams, procurement teams, and suppliers on human rights, labor standards, and responsible recruitment.
  • Research and design a capacity-building framework to support suppliers and subsidiaries in meeting global sustainability requirements.
  • Partner with business units Responsible Sourcing Team in creating policies and procedures to incentivize investment in responsible recruitment and continuous improvement in decent work.
  • Partner with business units Responsible Sourcing team to identify partners globally (excluding Thailand) to provide referral services for human rights remedies.
  • Lead coordination meetings and working groups to facilitate knowledge sharing and synergy.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Monitor and report on group-wide sustainability and human rights compliance, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Collaborate with all business units to prepare regular reports on progress towards goals and compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy:

  • Build and maintain relationships with NGOs, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders to stay ahead of emerging trends and best practices in human rights and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or masters degree in social sciences, Human Rights, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in social compliance, human rights, or sustainability, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. Experience in the seafood or food production industry is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of international human rights standards, labor rights, and audit/certification schemes (e.g., ILO, UNGP, SMETA, BSCI, ASC, BAP).
  • Proven track record in managing global supply chain compliance programs, including supplier engagement, risk management, and audits.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and manage complex, cross-functional relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage multiple global priorities.
