Sputter Equipment Development Engineering Intern, Equipment Engineering

The Sputter Equipment Development Engineering (SpEDE) team at Seagate designs and develops advanced sputter process equipment used in HDD media manufacturing. Our engineers work across mechanical design, vacuum systems, thermal engineering, automation, and process integration, taking ideas from concept through simulation, prototyping, testing, and deployment into production.

As aSpEDEIntern, you will work closely with experienced mechanical, thermal, and equipment engineers, contributing to real product and equipment development. Your responsibilities include:

• Supporting the mechanical design of parts and sub-systems for high-vacuum sputter equipment
• Assisting with thermal simulations to study heat generation, transfer, and temperature distribution
• Learning how simulation results are validated with test and field data, and how gaps are investigated
• Participating in prototype builds, equipment integration, and engineering tests
• Helping to collect, organize, and analyze engineering test or performance data
• Preparing engineering documentation, reports, and presentations
• Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, process, and manufacturing engineers on cross-functional tasks

• Currently pursuing aBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Physicsor a related discipline

• Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals

• Exposure to 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks,COMSOL, ANSYS,Creo, NX, or similar)

• Introductory knowledge of heat transfer or thermal concepts is a plus
