Professional profile:

A qualified sugarcane agronomist or sugarcane manager with at least a bachelor's degree in agriculture, agronomy, or a related field, coupled with extensive practical experience in large-scale commercial sugarcane cultivation.

Key skills include knowledge of sustainable practices, advanced cultivation techniques, pest and disease management, irrigation, and mechanical harvesting. Strong leadership, communication, financial acumen, and the ability to manage teams in a senior management role.

English CEFR level B1 or superior is required.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree:

A bachelor's degree (BSc) or master's degree (MSc) in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Science or a related field such as Biology, Crop and Plant Science, Chemistry, or Plant Conservation is the minimum requirement.

  • Professional Certifications:

Relevant professional certifications to demonstrate ongoing learning and expertise.

  • Specialized Diplomas:

A higher national diploma or a foundation degree in relevant agricultural field are considered.

Experience Requirements

Experience in large-scale estate agriculture, sugar cane agronomy and crop production, farm management software, and sustainable farming practices. Key skills include strong leadership, financial acumen, communication, and the ability to manage large teams, influence outcomes, and adapt to challenges like climate variations. A relevant agricultural degree is preferred but can be substituted with extensive, relevant experience.

  • Sugarcane Experience:

A significant amount of practical experience in sugarcane cultivation is vital, with a minimum of 5-10 years for expert roles.

  • Research and Trials:

Experience in conducting agronomic experiments, field trials, and evaluating results for developing best practices.

Key knowledge Skills and Expertise

  • Farm Management:

Ability to manage farm records, implement safety procedures, and comply with environmental regulations. With expertise in fertilization, irrigation, weed, and pest control.

  • Sugarcane Cultivation:

Deep understanding of sustainable sugarcane cultivation practices, including land preparation, planting, and ratoon crop maintenance.

  • Harvesting and Technology:

Knowledge of mechanical harvesting and planting, along with familiarity with modern technologies like GIS and drone technology.

  • Technical Knowledge:

Deep understanding of sugarcane nutrition, soil management, weed and pest control, and irrigation techniques.

  • Data Analysis:

Strong abilities in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting field data to drive decisions and improve practices.

  • Problem-Solving:

The ability to identify and resolve challenges related to planting, crop health, and production.

  • Communication:

Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical information to farmers, researchers, and other stakeholders.

  • Financial Acumen:

Commercial awareness and financial management skills, including budgeting and financial planning.
