Supply Chain Solution and Innovation Lead; the Solution Design specialist is a critical analytical and commercial role responsible for designing optimal, innovative, and cost-effective logistics solutions for new and existing Linfox customers. This role transforms raw customer data into operational realities, engineering the layout, processes, transport networks, and commercial models that win and retain business.
Key accountabilities:
Logistics & Supply Chain Engineering
- Data Analytics: Analyse complex customer datasets, including order profiles, inventory data, logistics network and define end-to-end operational workflows, focusing on safety, efficiency, and waste reduction, to understand customer requirements, volumes and growth patterns.
- Warehouse Design: Engineering optimal warehouse layouts, slotting strategies, storage configurations, and material handling equipment (MHE) requirements.
- Transport Optimization: Design efficient transport networks, routing strategies, and fleet configurations to minimize empty running and maximize utilization.
Process Mapping:Commercial & Tender Support
- Cost Modelling: Develop detailed Cost Models (including labour, equipment, facility costs, operating cost, IT system and infrastructure, and transport cost) to establish competitive and profitable pricing frameworks.
- RFP/RFQ Response: Author the technical components, solution write-ups, and operational concept designs for business tenders. Ensure proposals are developed in a way that meets customer expectations, agreed objectives and KPI's.
- Client Presentation: Support BD and KAM in pitches proposed technical solutions to customer stakeholders during the bidding, contract renewal, scope extend process.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential operational and financial risks within proposed solutions and engineer mitigation strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Innovation
- IT Alignment: Collaborate with IT and systems teams to integrate Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transport Management Systems (TMS) requirements into the design.
- Operations Handover: Ensure seamless transition of engineered designs to the operational implementation team's post-win.
Education and experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a highly quantitative field.
- 1 - 3 years of experience in solution design, logistics engineering, or data analysis within a 3PL environment.
- Advanced skills in warehouse modelling software (e.g., Visio, CLASS, AutoCAD, SketchUp), route optimization tools, and expert-level MS Excel.
- Ability to turn ambiguous, messy customer data into structured, actionable insights.
- Understanding how operational design choices directly impact profit-and-loss (P&L) statements.
- Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between technical concepts and non-technical business leaders.
