Job Overview

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Tax & Statutory Specialist is a regional-level role responsible for managing corporate and indirect tax matters across multiple Southeast Asia entities, including Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.

This position operates at a management level, with full ownership of statutory compliance, tax authority engagement, and audit coordination. The role serves as the primary tax point of contact for the region, working closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and senior leadership to ensure compliance, optimize tax strategies, and support business initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee corporate income tax (CIT), VAT, withholding tax, and statutory compliance across assigned countries
  • Prepare and review audited financial statements, tax filings, and tax provisions in line with IFRS and US GAAP
  • Act as the main point of contact with tax authorities, managing audits, inquiries, and refund claims
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Provide strategic tax support on cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, and business initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, including SOX 404 requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, efficiency, and compliance frameworks
  • Support regional and corporate reporting requirements and deadlines

Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of corporate tax, VAT, and statutory reporting
  • Solid understanding of IFRS, US GAAP, and tax provision processes
  • Ability to manage audits and engage effectively with tax authorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a regional, fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and compliance focus
  • Experience working in multinational and cross-cultural environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or CTA is preferred
  • Minimum 5–8+ years of progressive tax experience within a multinational company or tax advisory firm
  • Proven experience handling tax audits and regulatory engagement
  • Experience working with Big Four firms is highly preferred
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Willingness to travel within the region (up to 25–50%)
