Position Summary:
Serve as the primary liaison between Commercial Engineering and the manufacturing plant for thermoformed and injection molded products. Ensure successful implementation of engineering changes, new product initiatives, and tooling strategies. Responsibilities include interfacing with various engineering and production departments; purchasing and outside vendors to ensure product validation and production tooling are aligned with product requirements, standards and timing requirements. The employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Job responsibilities:
- Act as the point of contact for commercial engineering activities at the plant.
- Communicate design changes, tooling and validation updates, and process improvements to plant stakeholders.
- Ensure plant teams understand engineering/production documentation and requirements.
- Support and coordinate plant readiness for engineering projects, ensuring alignment with timelines and resources.
- Facilitate manufacturing plans for thermoformed and injection molded products, including tooling and validation requirements.
- Participate in engineering, kickoff, and project meetings to gather requirements and specifications. Provide technical insight into feasibility, manufacturability, and tooling concerns.
- Interface with tooling and material suppliers for thermoforming and injection molding projects.
- Partner with team members and vendors to source, design, build, inspect, and validate tooling.
- Coordinate fabrication, assembly, transfers, and upgrades of tooling, ensuring deliverables, timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Manage PPAP readiness of validated tooling and support product validation.
- Inspect and analyze prototypes, first article, and pre-production parts using precision measuring instruments to confirm tooling, product quality, and process capability. Generate measurement reports as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of engineering changes, tooling status, and validation results.
- Create and maintain documentation to support production, applications, customer service, and business development.
- Monitor plant and vendor performance for thermoformed and injection molded products; escalate systemic issues. Assure adherence to process set-up sheets during production.
- Assist in root cause analysis for major product/tooling issues requiring engineering involvement. Document findings in a corrective actions format
- Interpret mechanical drawings and BOMs to support troubleshooting and system construction.
- Serve as a liaison during audits related to engineering changes or new product launches.
- Occasional international and domestic travel to manufacturing sites, vendors, etc. is required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Manufacturing role, set up machines and tooling or product development in an engineering role with focus on thermoforming or injection molding manufacturing environments.
- Hands on development and validation experience preferred.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to use appropriate engineering formulas and principles to calculate associated solutions to engineering problems.
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Mastery of geometry, algebra, and trigonometry.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables with limited standardization.
