Position: R & D – Assistant

Position Reports to: Senior Chemist – R & D

Department: R & D

Location: Surat Thani, Thailand

General Summary of Position

To support the Senior Chemist in executing laboratory experiments, line trials, material evaluations, and project activities, including lab dipping, sample preparation, and testing.

Responsibilities & Specific Accountabilities

  • Conduct routine and non-routine laboratory tests as assigned (e.g., viscosity, burst test)
  • Assist in setting up and executing experiments under the guidance of the Senior Chemist.
  • Monitor and record experimental conditions (temperature, time, mixing conditions, etc.).
  • To assist and maintain proper implementation of design and development control procedures.
  • To ensure the Quality Systems adopted by the Company are implemented and the regulatory requirements, wherever relevant, are met.
  • To maintain a high level of housekeeping, calibration, and equipment in the laboratory at all times.
  • To protect confidentiality of information and trade-secret related to work within LifeStyles such that no unauthorized person can gain access.

Safety Risk Management:

  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external EHS rules, regulations, and other Risk Management requirements.
  • To follow Safety, Health, and Environmental procedures such as Safe Work Practice, ISO14001 activities, maintaining 5S activities on a monthly basis.
  • Contribute to the EHS activities e.g., report unsafe action, unsafe condition, near miss, etc. as an accountability tool to measure safety performance and to promote the development of an EHS culture.

Key Position Requirements

Education

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in chemistry/material/polymer science/engineering or relevant discipline

Job Experience

  • Experience in natural / synthetic rubber/ personal care products or medical devices industry - in areas of research, product development and/or manufacturing environment is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of medical devices including condom and/or lubricant technologies including standards for condoms and lubricants as appropriate.
  • Basic practical and theoretical/fundamental understanding of latex, polymer technology and/or product technology.

Desirable Job Competencies

  • Ability to communication including written and spoken English skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Good computer literacy to support work – e.g. Analysis and presentations.

Additional Requirements (travel, etc.)

Familiarity with test methods:

  • Tensile testing (ISO 4074)
  • Burst testing
  • TSI (Toluene Swelling Index)
  • Viscosity and pH measurement
