Job Description

Position: Chemist I – R & D

Position Reports to: Senior Chemist – R & D

Department: R & D

Location: Surat Thani, Thailand

General Summary of Position

Provides technical support related to new product development and innovation as well as manufacturing, sourcing and continuous improvement of commercialized products and technologies in R&D including design control and regulatory aspects as appropriate.

Responsibilities & Specific Accountabilities

To coordinate technical aspects of condom and lubricant technologies related to NPD and Innovation projects. This includes but not limited to:

• Planning and conducting laboratory and manufacturing plant experiments (including factory trials and process validation trials) as appropriate.
• Supporting the Research teams in executing of project activities including trials.
• Engaging in hands-on experiments, supervising, and managing of laboratory technician's daily activities and providing support where appropriate.
• To collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams within R&D.
• To collect data, analyses results and report overall progress of the projects to the Senior chemist, Senior manager (Condom research and manufacturing support), Head of R&D as appropriate.
• To provide technical support to Operations (LifeStyles MFG sites, Sourcing and/or 3rd party manufacturers as appropriate) during initial commercial production of newly transferred products and in continuous improvement to drive quality, capacity, productivity and cost improvements in material and process aspects of manufacturing.
• To assist and maintain proper implementation of design and development control procedures.
• To ensure the Quality Systems adopted by the Company are implemented and the regulatory requirements, wherever relevant, are met.
• To maintain a high level of housekeeping, calibration, and equipment in the laboratory at all times.
• To protect confidentiality of information and trade-secret related to work within LifeStyles such that no unauthorized person can gain access.

Safety Risk Management:

• Maintain compliance with all internal and external EHS rules, regulations, and other Risk Management requirements.
• To follow Safety, Health, and Environmental procedures such as Safe Work Practice, ISO14001 activities, maintaining 5S activities on a monthly basis.
• Contribute to the EHS activities e.g., report unsafe action, unsafe condition, near miss, etc. as an accountability tool to measure safety performance and to promote the development of an EHS culture.

Key Position Requirements

Education

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in chemistry/material/polymer science/engineering or relevant discipline.

Job Experience

• Experience in natural / synthetic rubber/ personal care products or medical devices industry - in areas of research, product development and/or manufacturing environment is a plus.
• Proven ability to coordinate R&D activities.

Knowledge and Skills

• Basic knowledge of medical devices including condom and/or lubricant technologies including standards for condoms and lubricants as appropriate.
• Basic practical and theoretical/fundamental understanding of latex, polymer technology and/or product technology.
• Basic understanding of laboratory and safety, health, and environment practices
• Basic understanding of Quality Systems, including ISO 13485.
• Basic understanding of Design Control & Document Control procedures and basic regulatory requirements.
• Basic understanding of statistics and statistical analysis of data

Desirable Job Competencies

• Ability to communication including written and spoken English skills and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate in another language or foreign language is added advantage.
• Good work and time management for self and team.
• Good computer literacy to support work – e.g. Analysis and presentations
• Ability to systematically work through problems and manage through crisis situations as well as make decisions based on good judgment.

Additional Requirements (travel, etc.)

• Ability to travel locally and abroad for work.
