Position Overview

This is a player-coach role combining significant hands-on engineering with technical leadership of a Java development team. The engineer will personally contribute to architecture, API design, and complex backend development while simultaneously guiding the team through delivery, code quality, and technical decision-making. Work delivered here directly shapes the reliability and scalability of platforms used by Fortune-class clients.

Role & Responsibilities

• Personally design and develop high-quality, scalable Java/Spring Boot applications, RESTful APIs, and backend services as a hands-on individual contributor.
• Lead a team of Java developers across the full delivery lifecycle — planning, design, coding, testing, and production release.
• Own technical architecture and design decisions for microservices-based distributed systems.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce development standards, design patterns, and best practices across the team.
• Lead integration of microservices, third-party APIs, and distributed system components.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, QA, and DevOps teams; actively participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
• Estimate effort, decompose features into tasks, and ensure on-time delivery of project milestones.

Must Have Criteria

• 6+ years of hands-on Java development with Spring and Spring Boot in production environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring a team of developers while remaining an active individual contributor.
• Strong expertise in designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services at scale.
• Proven experience architecting and integrating microservices and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Angular for frontend development and integration with Java backends.
• Solid command of software design patterns, code quality standards, and secure coding practices.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum teams with hands-on involvement in sprint ceremonies, effort estimation, and delivery planning.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to SAP SaaS applications such as SAP Ariba.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in an enterprise context.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices — CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Prior experience in Financial Services, Retail, or Healthcare technology domains.
• Contributions to platform modernization or legacy system migration projects.
