Data Centre Manager

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Data Centre Manager to oversee data centre infrastructure, operations, capacity planning, asset lifecycle management, migration activities and business continuity initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, security and operational efficiency of data centre environments while coordinating infrastructure, facilities, network, cloud, application and vendor teams.

The role will also support data centre migration, exit and colocation programmes, including planning, execution, risk management and transition of physical and technology infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Data Centre Operations & Infrastructure

• Manage day-to-day data centre infrastructure and operational activities to ensure availability and reliability of critical IT environments.
• Oversee physical data centre infrastructure including power capacity, precision cooling, rack layouts, structured cabling, space utilisation and equipment placement.
• Maintain data centre standards for rack design, cabling, airflow, power distribution and equipment deployment.
• Monitor data centre infrastructure performance and identify potential capacity, availability and operational risks.
• Coordinate infrastructure provisioning, installation, relocation and decommissioning activities.
• Ensure data centre environments comply with established operational, security and audit requirements.

Capacity & Asset Management

• Manage IT asset lifecycle and inventory, from procurement and deployment through relocation, refresh and decommissioning.
• Maintain accurate asset and configuration records through CMDB/ITSM platforms.
• Monitor rack space, power, cooling and infrastructure capacity to support current and future business requirements.
• Implement effective asset tracking and audit processes using appropriate inventory and tracking systems.
• Identify opportunities to optimise infrastructure utilisation and reduce operational costs.

Data Centre Migration & Transformation

• Lead or coordinate data centre migration, exit and colocation programmes.
• Develop migration plans covering servers, databases, applications, storage, network and supporting infrastructure.
• Plan migration waves based on application dependencies, business criticality, risk and technical readiness.
• Coordinate multiple internal teams, vendors and service providers throughout migration activities.
• Manage migration risks, dependencies, cutover activities and post-migration stabilisation.
• Ensure migrations are delivered with minimal disruption and within agreed timelines and SLAs.
• Support cloud migration initiatives across AWS and Azure environments.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

• Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BCP) processes for critical infrastructure and applications.
• Plan and conduct regular DR drills and failover exercises.
• Coordinate application, database, network and infrastructure teams during DR testing.
• Validate recovery procedures, connectivity, system availability and application readiness.
• Track findings from DR exercises and coordinate remediation activities.
• Maintain appropriate documentation, recovery procedures and operational runbooks.

Monitoring & Incident Management

• Oversee infrastructure monitoring and observability across data centre environments.
• Utilise monitoring platforms such as SolarWinds and ServiceNow to monitor infrastructure health, availability and performance.
• Establish appropriate monitoring, alerting and escalation procedures.
• Lead or coordinate resolution of critical infrastructure incidents.
• Conduct and review Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major incidents.
• Ensure incidents and problems are managed in accordance with agreed SLA and operational processes.

Infrastructure & Network Coordination

• Coordinate infrastructure and network requirements for data centre operations and migration projects.
• Review network connectivity, ports, routing, secure connectivity and infrastructure dependencies.
• Work with network, security and application teams to ensure appropriate connectivity is established.
• Support infrastructure architecture reviews and technical implementation planning.
• Coordinate provisioning and decommissioning of infrastructure and connectivity.

Governance & Vendor Management

• Manage data centre-related projects, operational activities and technical workstreams.
• Coordinate internal teams, vendors, service providers and technology partners.
• Establish project plans, RACI matrices, risk registers and RAG reporting.
• Ensure delivery activities meet agreed technical, security, compliance and operational standards.
• Maintain documentation, SOPs, technical procedures and operational guidelines.
• Work closely with senior stakeholders, PMO and technology leadership on data centre strategy and transformation initiatives.

Cost & Optimisation

• Identify opportunities to improve data centre utilisation and infrastructure efficiency.
• Support optimisation of server, database, storage and infrastructure resources.
• Identify opportunities for infrastructure consolidation and technology rationalisation.
• Support cost optimisation initiatives across data centre and cloud environments.
• Monitor infrastructure lifecycle and licensing considerations where applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

• Relevant data centre, infrastructure, cloud or project management certifications are advantageous.
• Strong experience working within enterprise or mission-critical environments.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

• 10+ years of experience in data centre, infrastructure or technology operations.
• Strong understanding of both physical data centre infrastructure and enterprise IT environments.
• Proven experience managing or coordinating data centre migration, exit or colocation projects.
• Strong understanding of power, cooling, racks, cabling, capacity and asset lifecycle management.
• Experience with AWS/Azure cloud migration is highly desirable.
• Strong experience in DR, BCP and failover governance.
• Excellent incident management, troubleshooting and RCA capabilities.
• Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple infrastructure workstreams and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
