Electrical & Automation Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical & Automation Engineer to provide electrical, controls and automation engineering support for Filtrona's manufacturing machinery and equipment.

The role will develop and improve machine electrical and control systems, including PLC programming, servo systems and automation solutions. Working from the Thailand Engineering Hub and collaborating closely with the Hungary Engineering Hub and manufacturing sites, the role will support machine development, refurbishment, installation, commissioning and continuous improvement across Filtrona operations.

Role and Responsibilities

• Electrical & Controls Engineering: Design, develop and improve electrical and electronic systems for manufacturing machines and equipment.
• Automation Development: Develop and implement automation solutions to improve manufacturing productivity, consistency, quality and equipment capability.
• PLC Programming: Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs and associated machine control systems.
• Servo Systems: Configure, parameterize and troubleshoot servo drives and motion-control systems.
• Machine Development: Provide electrical and automation engineering support for new machine development, machine upgrades and refurbishment programs.
• Equipment Improvement: Monitor existing equipment from an engineering perspective and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reliability and maintainability.
• Testing & Validation: Develop test concepts and participate in testing, validation and troubleshooting of new or modified machines.
• Installation & Commissioning: Participate in machine assembly, on-site installation, commissioning and startup activities at manufacturing sites.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Support manufacturing sites in resolving complex electrical, controls and automation-related machine issues.
• Engineering Documentation: Prepare and maintain electrical drawings, control-system documentation, specifications, software records and other relevant technical documentation.
• Engineering Hub Collaboration: Work closely with the Thailand and Hungary Engineering Hubs to establish and maintain common electrical and automation standards and share technical knowledge and best practices.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in machine performance, process improvement and automation initiatives across manufacturing locations.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure electrical and automation solutions comply with applicable equipment safety, occupational health and safety, environmental and quality requirements.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Higher education (college/university) engineering degree - Electrical / Mechatronics Engineering / Automation or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in manufacturing equipment, electrical engineering, controls or industrial automation.
• Practical experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems.
• Knowledge and experience in servo systems, drives and motion control.
• Ability to understand and develop electrical and control-system technical documentation.
• Knowledge of ERP or integrated enterprise management systems.
• Basic knowledge of Lean and problem-solving methodologies such as Ishikawa and FMEA.
• Working proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capability.
• Self-driven and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
• International and domestic travel to manufacturing sites and suppliers will be required based on project needs.
• Short-term deployment to other Filtrona locations may be required for machine build, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and knowledge-transfer activities.

Preferred Skills

• Experience designing electrical/control systems for custom manufacturing machinery.
• Experience with machine automation, commissioning and startup.
• Experience integrating PLCs, servo drives, sensors and other industrial automation components.
