Job Description

Laminar IP (Thailand)

Laminar IP is a boutique intellectual property firm headquartered in Sydney, Australia. The firm specialises in patents, designs and trademarks, and operates a multi-jurisdictional practice spanning Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. We are looking for an enthusiastic IP Associate to join our newly established office in Bangkok.

Our Bangkok office works with domestic and international clients of all sizes including, individual innovators, SMEs and multinational clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated IP professional to work closely with two experienced Thai IP practitioners and patent agents, contribute to the development of a growing practice, and take responsibility for a broad range of intellectual property matters.

The opportunity

As an IP Associate, you will handle a varied portfolio of domestic and international matters, including:

  • Trademark, patent and design filings and prosecution before the Department of Intellectual Property;
  • Reviewing and responding to office actions and other official correspondence;
  • Advising on prosecution strategy and maintaining effective communication with clients, foreign associates and relevant authorities;
  • Conducting and coordinating IP searches, clearance work and portfolio reviews;
  • Managing deadlines, reporting, docketing and day-to-day client and foreign associate correspondence; and
  • Supporting contentious IP work, including oppositions, invalidations, cancellations, appeals, enforcement-related matters and other disputes.

The role will provide exposure to the full life cycle of IP rights, from initial filing and prosecution through to contentious and strategic work.

About you

We are seeking a person who is:

  • An IP lawyer, patent agent, trademark practitioner or other suitably qualified IP professional;
  • Experienced in, or strongly interested in, trademark, patent and design filing and prosecution;
  • Comfortable handling contentious matters or keen to develop capability in this area;
  • Highly proficient in English, both written and spoken, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with international clients and associates;
  • Well organised, commercially minded and attentive to detail;
  • Able to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and take ownership of matters;
  • A collaborative team member who is also capable of working independently; and
  • Keen to help build a newly established IP firm and contribute to its systems, culture and growth.

A patent agent qualification is preferred, but not essential. Experience with Thai IP practice and the Department of Intellectual Property is an advantage, but applicants with strong transferable experience and the right attitude are encouraged to apply.

Fluency or working proficiency in an additional language, such as Chinese, Korean or Japanese, would be highly regarded, but is not essential.

Why join Laminar IP (Thailand)

  • Join a newly opened Thailand practice at an exciting stage of its development;
  • Work directly with two experienced IP practitioners and patent agents and the broader international team in Australia and New Zealand;
  • Gain broad exposure across patents, trademarks, designs and contentious IP matters;
  • Develop close client relationships and practical, commercially focused IP skills;
  • Enjoy the opportunity to help shape the firm's processes, service offering and growth; and
  • Be part of a supportive, international and success-focused boutique practice.
