Mechanical Design Engineer (Urgent Required )

We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to develop mechanical designs, components and machine assemblies supporting Filtrona's manufacturing equipment and engineering projects.

The role will create and maintain accurate 3D models, engineering drawings and technical specifications, including reverse engineering of existing machine components. Working as part of the Thailand Engineering Hub and closely with the Hungary Engineering Hub, manufacturing sites and suppliers, the role will support machine development, refurbishment, localization and continuous improvement across Filtrona operations.

Role and Responsibilities

• Mechanical Design: Design machine components, assemblies, tools, jigs and fixtures to support new equipment, machine upgrades and manufacturing requirements.
• 3D Modelling: Develop accurate 3D models using SolidWorks and appropriate design modules.
• Reverse Engineering: Reverse-engineer existing machine parts and assemblies through measurement, analysis and creation of accurate 3D models and technical specifications.
• Engineering Drawings: Prepare detailed workshop and manufacturing drawings, including materials, tolerances, fits, surface finishes, heat treatment and other manufacturing requirements.
• Design for Manufacture: Ensure designs consider manufacturability, assembly, reliability, maintainability, cost and equipment safety.
• Machine Development & Refurbishment: Provide mechanical design support for machine development, rebuild, upgrade and refurbishment programs.
• Prototype & NPI Support: Participate in prototype manufacturing, trials and new product or equipment introduction activities and prepare associated technical documentation.
• Manufacturing Process Improvement: Develop engineering solutions to improve manufacturing processes, equipment performance and machine capability.
• Supplier Collaboration: Work with machine manufacturers, component suppliers and local manufacturers to ensure technical requirements are understood and achieved.
• Engineering Hub Collaboration: Work closely with the Thailand and Hungary Engineering Hubs to maintain common design practices, engineering standards and technical documentation.
• Knowledge Sharing: Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions and lessons-learned activities and facilitate technical knowledge transfer across engineering teams.
• Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify designs, improve quality, localize components and reduce manufacturing or lifecycle costs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Higher education (college/university) engineering degree - Mechatronics Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant mechanical design engineering experience.
• Professional-level proficiency in SolidWorks, including Parts, Assemblies and relevant modules such as Sheet Metal, Welding/Weldments, Piping and Simulation.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, fits and manufacturing specifications.
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication and metal processing.
• Knowledge of ERP or integrated enterprise management systems.
• Basic knowledge of Lean principles.
• Working proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across international engineering teams.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capability.
• Self-driven and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
• International and domestic travel to manufacturing sites and suppliers will be required based on project needs.
• Short-term deployment to other Filtrona locations may be required for machine build, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and knowledge-transfer activities.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in custom machinery or manufacturing equipment design.
• Experience designing tools, jigs and fixtures.
• Knowledge of metal cutting and machining processes.
• Knowledge of heat treatment, surface treatments and special coatings.
• Understanding of ISO/DIN and imperial engineering standards and conversions.
• Experience with machine development, refurbishment or localization projects.
• Project management knowledge and practical experience.
