Job Description
Game Developer (Mid-level to Senior)
About our Partner
Our Partner builds serious games: playable simulations that organisations use to train and assess their people. Their current titles run on Unity and browser technology (React, TypeScript), and future projects may use Unreal. They build fast, with AI tools as a core part of how they work.
The role
You'll take a game design through to a working build — owning the game systems and interface, then testing and deploying the result. You'll be trusted to make gameplay decisions, use AI tools to move quickly, and take responsibility for what you ship.
What you'll do
- Take game designs from concept to a playable, finished build
- Own core gameplay systems and the player-facing interface
- Design mechanics, UX flow, level structure and visual direction that turn a training objective into something the player actually practices
- Use AI coding and asset tools daily to build and iterate, catching and fixing their mistakes
- Deliver across platforms — WebGL for most training titles, with iOS, Android and desktop in scope
- Play-test, reproduce bugs and regression-test before release
- Learn the engine and tools each project needs
What we're looking for
- At least one playable, finished game you designed and developed, or had a significant role in from start to finish
- Proficiency in at least one of Unity, Unreal Engine or Godot
- Demonstrated ownership of core gameplay systems and how they fit together
- Ability to create interesting mechanics, UX flow, simple level structure and visual direction
- Ability to translate a learning or training objective into a verb the player practices (decide, inspect, document, execute a procedure)
- Daily use of AI coding and asset tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex or similar) with a critical understanding of how AI agents work
- Multi-platform delivery experience — WebGL required; iOS, Android and desktop are in scope
- Strong QA habits: play-testing, reproducing bugs, regression testing
Finished work matters more than a particular engine or a years-of-experience cutoff. If you've shipped a game and use AI tools well, we'd rather meet you now than wait for someone who ticks every box.
Nice to have
- Publishing experience (Steam, App Store, Google Play or similar)
- Familiarity with correct-by-construction principles and domain-driven design
- Instructional design, training simulation or educational games background
- Shader development (HLSL, GLSL, MSL)
- AR/VR development kit experience
- Strength on the visual and asset side, especially Blender and 3D modelling
Hiring process
- Application review — shortlist based on resume and relevant work
- Engineering Interview — chat through a game dev project of yours with a Senior Engineer.
- Final interviews
The entire process will be run by senior engineers, no recruiters. We believe the hiring process is deeply flawed and as a talent partner and engineering leader we are changing it one interview at a time.
