Regional Commerical & Contract Manager

Our client is a market-leading engineering and construction specialist with a strong international presence, recognized for delivering technically challenging foundation, ground improvement, and underground construction projects across major infrastructure sectors.

We are helping them to look for an experienced Commercial & Contracts Manager to provide strategic commercial leadership across complex engineering, infrastructure, and construction projects. The role is responsible for safeguarding commercial interests, managing contractual risk exposure, and supporting project teams in achieving successful financial and operational outcomes.

The successful candidate will work closely with business leaders, project teams, clients, and external stakeholders to drive best practices in contract management, claims strategy, negotiation, and commercial governance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Contract & Commercial Strategy

• Lead the review, assessment, and negotiation of client and subcontract agreements.
• Develop contract strategies that balance commercial opportunities with risk management objectives.
• Provide commercially focused advice to support business growth and project delivery.
• Establish contracting approaches that align with corporate objectives and project requirements.

Tender & Bid Support

• Partner with bid teams during the pursuit and tendering stages of projects.
• Evaluate commercial and contractual risks associated with new business opportunities.
• Support risk assessments, pricing assumptions, and contractual clarifications during tender submissions.
• Participate in negotiations to secure commercially acceptable contract terms.

Commercial Risk Management

• Identify, evaluate, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks across active projects.
• Provide guidance on entitlement, risk allocation, and contract interpretation.
• Ensure project teams maintain compliance with contractual obligations and notification requirements.
• Develop proactive strategies to minimise commercial exposure and maximise project profitability.

Claims & Dispute Resolution

• Lead the development and execution of claims strategies for variations, delays, disruptions, and other contractual events.
• Support negotiations and resolution of commercial disputes with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Coordinate legal support where necessary and manage interactions with external counsel.
• Protect contractual rights while maintaining effective stakeholder relationships.

Project Delivery Support

• Act as a trusted commercial advisor to project and operational teams.
• Support procurement and subcontract management activities.
• Drive effective change management processes across projects.
• Conduct periodic reviews of project commercial performance and contractual compliance.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

• Promote a culture of commercial awareness and contract compliance throughout the organisation.
• Mentor project teams on contractual matters and commercial best practices.
• Contribute to the enhancement of commercial procedures, governance frameworks, and risk management processes.
• Share lessons learned and support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

Requirements

• Approximately 8+ years of experience in commercial, contracts, legal, quantity surveying, or project controls functions within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or industrial sectors.
• Demonstrated experience managing high-value and complex contracts throughout the full project lifecycle.
• Strong track record in contract negotiation, claims management, dispute avoidance, and commercial risk management.
• Experience working within multi-disciplinary project environments and engaging with senior stakeholders.
• Degree in Law, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Advanced qualifications in Construction Law, Commercial Management, or Contract Administration would be advantageous.
