Senior Process Specialist(SME Mechanical)

Summary

Owns new SMT and advanced SMT process development at the site: fine pitch, high density interconnect, mixed VIPPO, advanced spacing and the rework capability that goes with them. Develops, qualifies and proves the process on real product, then hands a qualified process to the site to run.

Detailed Description

• Develop and qualify new SMT processes: paste, placement, reflow, inspection and rework, with process window and Cpk.

• Own the technical resolution of advanced spacing, mixed VIPPO on both sides, and the associated rework capability.

• Execute manufacturability POCs on the SMT line against agreed success criteria.

• Evaluate new SMT equipment, materials and inspection technology with Roadmapping and Advanced Manufacturing.

• Support NPI builds through SMT: troubleshoot defects, drive yield recovery and record the evidence.

• Feed SMT capability data into the capability matrix and directly into the DFM rule set.

• Support the site in converting the qualified process into PFMEA, control plan and work instructions.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

• SMT process development and qualification reports with Cpk · advanced spacing and mixed VIPPO capability evidence · POC records · equipment and material evaluation · capability matrix and DFM rule input.
• Process validated and qualified before PVT · advanced capability closed against the roadmap · first pass yield at SMT · defects per million opportunities at SMT on NPI builds.
• Site SMT and equipment engineering · DFM and SMT Engineering manager · Roadmapping and Advanced Manufacturing · the programme MTL · equipment, paste and material suppliers.
• Six to twelve years in SMT process engineering with advanced packaging exposure — fine pitch, BGA, VIPPO, HDI. Strong on DOE and process characterisation. Degree in materials, manufacturing or electrical engineering.
• Baseline SMT capability against the DFM rule set. Open the mixed VIPPO and advanced spacing development with a plan and a date.

Physical Demands

• Incumbent will perform the duties of this position in a normal office environment.
• Duties may require periodic sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
• May require occasional travel.

Typical Education

• Bachelor's degree in related field, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
