Job Description

Tesla's Battery supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This role will develop, qualify, scale up and optimize manufacturing and quality system procedures for Battery assembly manufacturing. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery assembly designs from initial concept through into full production.

The battery assembly is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving NPI and production launch readiness, and line/equipment qualification using TQP (Tesla Qualification Process) & ensure OEE & quality targets are met during production.
  • Guide suppliers in selecting and validating appropriate dispensing systems for thermal and structural adhesives, define laser/tab welding process parameters, inspection criteria, validation method & critical data capture requirements.
  • Drive supplier DFM reviews, guide suppliers in efficient use of poke-yokes, best methods of assembly, testing, and gauging to ensure the product meets design requirement.
  • Drive critical assembly interface requirements between supplier & Tesla factory and ensure proper quality controls are implemented at supplier assembly lines.
  • Drive supplier process change validations to improve process, quality, OEE & cost.
  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet quality, performance and delivery expectations.
  • Drive root cause analysis & validate corrective actions using Tesla SCAR system for factory & field quality issues.

  • Requirements


  • BS or MS Degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing / Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of assembly plant experience supporting battery pack, module, laser welding, 2-part adhesive dispensing, vision-based inspections or similar processes in a Process or Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering or Supplier Industrialization Engineering role
  • Previous experience in managing safety critical parts
  • Experience in Quality Systems a plus: PPAP/APQP processes
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 Standards
  • Background in Statistical Process Control, Capability Analysis (Cp, Cpk), FMEA, Control Plans & OEE.
  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level
  • Excellent team building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers, and other functional areas
  • Strong technical writing ability and an ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner.
  • Ability to travel to supplier sites domestically up to 80% of time.
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing is highly desired.
