Job Description

Based in Bangkok, Thailand we are looking for a passionate and energetic individual to join us as Director, People & Culture for the pre-opening team of Siam Pan Pacific Bangkok.

Job Responsibilities:

The Director, People & Culture (P&C) is a key management position. The incumbent is responsible to drive the smooth opening of the hotel and management of human resource activities encompassing talent acquisition and manpower planning, industrial relations, compensation & benefits, performance management, employee welfare and engagement, and learning & development of workforce.

  • Drive the human resource activities for pre-opening, including drafting of manpower requirements and recruitment timeline, conduct compensation & benefit survey and review benefit plan/package.

  • Set up of the People & Culture Department work flow and physical work areas, which include Associate areas such as cafeteria, rest areas, etc.

  • Develop all P&C policies and procedures to ensure a smooth operation of the P&C activities.

  • Responsible for the hotel's recruitment program, which will include activities such as advertising, screening, interviewing, reference checking, and employment offers. This includes the mass recruitment exercise to ensure sufficient manning for a successful opening of the property.

  • Prepare the hotel's annual manpower budget in consultation with the department managers and submit it to management for approval. In preparing the manpower budget, the incumbent works closely with the department managers in arriving at the appropriate manpower strength for each department paying attention to issues like manpower cost, productivity, etc.

  • Maintain a register of all position descriptions in the hotel in the prescribed formats and to update them on a regular basis so that they are relevant and reflective of the actual duties expected of these positions.

  • Well informed of the local labour law, employment act and union regulations. Keep abreast of all changes in regulations to stay in line with the local authorities guidelines.

  • Stay current on latest hotel's compensation and benefit practices and provide feedback to management when changes are needed so that the hotel can remain competitive with its identified competitors. In this regard, the incumbent surveys the market and puts up reports to management.

  • Facilitate and work with Department Heads on annual appraisal exercises, including administration, tabulation, and education to Managers to ensure fairness is applied pre and post process.

  • Conduct performance review of department staff and provide honest feedback on their respective performance, to guide and improve where there is shortfall in performance and reinforce to reach an acceptable level of competency.

  • Manage the day-to-day employee relations activities ensuring that there is good and healthy working relation between all stakeholders.

  • Coordinate the hotels recreational and sports activities including the staff cafeteria and ensures that staff's welfare and interests are addressed. The incumbent sits on such committees and plays an active role.

  • Drive the delivery of Associate Satisfaction Survey in order to identify opportunities for improvement within the property and facilitate action planning with the department heads.

  • Plan the hotel's annual training program, in consultation with Corporate Director of Learning & Development, and roll out the training plan ensuring the respective programs are well received by the employees and their immediate supervisors. When required, the incumbent also performs the duties of a trainer.

  • Ensure commitment to the daily practice of the Pan Pacific Hotels Group Values by ensuring that all Associates have the understanding and acceptance of Our Vision, Purpose & Values in order to evolve the properties organisational development.

The Person:

  • Prior experience as a head of Human Resources in an international chain for at least 3 years
  • Excellent knowledge of human resource management, preferably in a hospitality set-up. Pre-opening experience will be of advantage
  • Culturally sensitive, ability to engage people across all levels with ease and confidence
  • Experienced in managing diverse relationships, local regulatory authorities, as well as local communities
  • Good understanding of local Labour Laws and Regulations
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written
  • Act with utmost integrity
  • High levels of flexibility and adaptability
