Job Description
About WorkZen
WorkZen is a field service management platform for trade businesses in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, garage doors and more. It covers:
- Scheduling and jobs
- Estimates, invoices and payments
- An integrated phone system with an AI Receptionist that answers calls and books jobs
WorkZen runs on a freemium model and serves more than 200 contractor businesses across the US and Canada, with more joining every day.
The role
We're a small team that moves fast. We release new versions every day, with bug fixes and new features across our web app and our iOS and Android apps, on phones and tablets. Every release has to be checked on both our test and live versions. That makes this a full-time job, and most of it is hands-on manual testing.
You'll be our first dedicated QA engineer. We don't have any QA documentation yet, so you'll build it from scratch. You'll report directly to our COO and work closely with our CEO, who is also our CTO. If you do well, this role can grow into building and leading a full QA department.
What you'll do
- Manual and automated test on every release on web, iOS, Android and tablet, on both test and live versions.
- Check bug fixes and new features before and after they go live.
- Make sure each feature works the same way on web and mobile.
- Check inconsistencies on iOS, Android and Desktop.
- Test mobile builds through TestFlight and Google Play test tracks.
- Run regression tests on core workflows so daily releases don't break what already works. These include scheduling, jobs, estimates, invoices, payments, and calls and messaging.
- Reproduce bugs and document them clearly: steps, expected vs. actual result, screenshots or recordings, device and version.
- Reproduce, confirm and prioritize issues reported by our customers.
- Build our QA documentation from the ground up: test plans, test cases, regression checklists and a release sign-off process.
What we're looking for
- At least 3 years of QA experience testing web and mobile apps (iOS and Android)
- Strong manual testing skills, including designing and running test cases
- Good grasp of the software development process and how releases move from test to live
- Great attention to detail, and clear, well-written bug reports
- Fluent English, written and spoken
- Able to work independently: you plan your own day, set your priorities and follow through without micromanagement
Nice to have
- SaaS platform experience
- Test automation experience (for example Playwright, Cypress or Appium)
- QA or software testing certifications (for example ISTQB)
Why join us
- A small team with direct access to the founders, where decisions happen fast
- Real ownership: you'll build our QA function yourself
- A long-term role: we want someone we can trust, who will grow with the company
- Remote work, with occasional in-person meetings in Bangkok to stay in sync
- Salary based on experience, to be discussed
