About the Role
The Sales Director is responsible for leading the company's sales strategy, business development, and revenue growth within the packaging industry. This role oversees key customer relationships, manages the sales team, identifies new market opportunities, and works closely with operations, production, and product development teams to deliver innovative packaging solutions. The Sales Director plays a critical role in achieving business objectives, expanding market share, and ensuring long-term customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve revenue, profit, and market share targets.
- Identify new business opportunities in target industries such as food & beverage, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, personal care, and industrial packaging.
- Drive sustainable growth through customer acquisition, retention, and expansion strategies.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distributors, and strategic partners.
- Lead negotiations for major contracts, pricing agreements, and long-term supply arrangements.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the sales team to achieve individual and team performance goals.
- Establish KPIs, sales targets, and performance management processes.
- Provide coaching, sales training, and career development opportunities.
- Develop annual sales budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
- Monitor sales performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage pricing strategies to maximize profitability while remaining competitive.
- Prepare regular sales reports and present business performance to senior management.
- Collaborate with Production, Supply Chain, Marketing, R&D, and Quality teams to deliver customer requirements effectively.
- Support new product launches, packaging innovations, and sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure alignment between customer expectations and operational capabilities.
- Monitor packaging industry trends, sustainability regulations, and emerging technologies.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings.
- Identify opportunities related to sustainable packaging, recycling, and circular economy initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Packaging Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- MBA or advanced business qualification is preferred.
- Minimum 10-15 years of sales and business development experience, preferably within the packaging, plastics, paper packaging, flexible packaging, or related manufacturing industries.
- At least 5 years in a senior sales leadership or management role.
- Proven track record of achieving revenue growth and managing large customer accounts.
- Strong strategic planning and business acumen.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and team management skills.
- Advanced negotiation and relationship management capabilities.
- Strong financial and commercial understanding, including budgeting and forecasting.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze market trends and develop effective growth strategies.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Established network within packaging, FMCG, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing sectors is an advantage.
- Experience with CRM systems and sales analytics tools.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
